By Shoshana Burrus Arizona Daily Wildcat February 10, 1997 Icecats stampede Buffaloes for 2 winsThe Arizona Icecats completed their monthlong road trip over the weekend by sweeping the Colorado Buffaloes, 5-4 and 8-4 in Boulder. With only two more regular season games the No. 2 Icecats are focused on what looms directly ahead of them - the national championship tournament, which takes place in three weeks at Eastern Michigan. The Buffaloes (12-10-1) gave the Icecats a bit of a scare on Friday night. With the game tied in the third period, it took a short-handed goal from Icecat co-captain Peter Scott to clinch the victory. Another point of concern for the Icecats going into Saturday night's game was the disqualification of Icecat leading scorer Brian Consolino, who sat on the bench Saturday night after being kicked out in the first period on Friday night. "This was the worst refereeing I've ever seen," Icecat coach Leo Golembiewski said. "It was terrible." With Consolino watching from the bench, the Icecats were forced to make some line changes. "How do you replace Consolino?" Golembiewski said. "We had to go with different line combinations that we weren't happy with." The Icecats took two periods to adjust to the hole in the line. They only scored two goals in the first two periods, but fought their way back to grab six unanswered goals in the final period. Sophomore Bob Majka scored the first Icecat goal in the first period. The Buffaloes, however, had scored four goals in the first. Sophomore Andy Knick scored his first goal in the second period, pulling the Icecats closer. The third period was a different story for the Icecats as Andy Knick scored his first career hat trick, Sam Battaglia his 200th point as an Icecat and freshman Jason Cathers his first Icecat goal.
