Ortege Jenkins

Think you have a busy schedule? Try filling Arizona's sophomore shooting guard/quarterback Ortege Jenkins' shoes for a day. Shortly after hitting a three-pointer in the final minutes of Arizona's Pacific 10 Conference-title-clinching win over Stanford and cutting down his piece of the net, Jenkins headed into the locker room to switch uniforms. Replacing number 43 for 16, Jenkins headed out to the football practice field for Meet the Team festivities.

"I am having fun," Jenkins said. "It is a great opportunity to play two sports."

So, how will Jenkins balance basketball and football, along with school?

"It is going to be very interesting," Jenkins said. "I am not sure how I will do it."

So, was senior forward Bennett Davison blushing during his dad's performance of "Love on a Cable Car" Saturday?

Not a chance.

"Actually, he did it a couple of times for my class in high school," Davison said. "I am not embarrassed. I just never know what he is going to say."

However, he did acknowledge the song is a little outdated.

"You can tell from the video, it's from the '70s," Davison said.

The men's tennis team, winless in 10 matches against Pacific 10 Conference teams last year, discovered the tonic to ease its ailments the night before downing Arizona State 4-3 over the weekend.

"We had a team dinner and really started to get along well together," team captain

Jerome Oliveri said. "After that dinner we really stuck together."

There was a little confusion at a local bar Thursday night when UA center Donnell Harris showed up at Maloney's to watch Arizona's home game against California. Harris was suspended for two games by head coach Lute Olson. Part of the suspension was that he could not sit on the team bench. But the suspension wasn't made public until Thursday afternoon so many people in the bar were not aware Harris had been suspended.

Collin Porter

One of the stars from UA's baseball team's sweep of California during the weekend was right fielder Colin Porter. Porter had two triples and was 6 for 6 in stolen bases over the three-game series.

"I've been feeling fast," Porter said. "(Strength and Conditioning) coach Mark Hill worked with us on exploding over the offseason."

Hill's teaching has been apparent as Arizona has a total of 24 triples and 35 stolen bases so far this year. Porter leads the team with 11 steals and senior second baseman Erik Mattern is the leader with six triples.

All of this has helped Arizona achieve two more firsts. This season marks the first time since 1985 that the Wildcats have reached 20 wins and this is the first time since 1989 that they are 20 games over .500.

The Colorado Rockies have made a new addition to their staff who has close ties to UA. Softball manager Al Desrosiers has been added to the staff as a bullpen catcher and will serve in that position for the remainder of spring training. Desrosiers said he works with the Rockies Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. before darting over to Hillenbrand Stadium for softball practice. Desrosiers also said he has a meeting with Rockies General Manager Bob Gebhard later this week to talk about a possible position after spring training.

The Arizona softball team might think twice about renting the movie "Twister" after its recent trip to Florida.

During the Wildcats' stay in Gainesville, late last month, they encountered weather in the Sunshine State that was less than sunny. They happened to be playing in Florida during the state's week of tornadoes.

According to the assistant coach Amy Chellevold, the women actually witnessed a green sky with suspicious-looking clouds as they drove to their game site.
