Depleted Laxcats have no room for error

A Laxcat player gets in position for a pass while a Whittier player defends him in Saturday night's 15-3 UA loss. The Laxcats travel to California to face Chapman and Drew this weekend.

Yes, they are a depleted bunch of lacrosse players but they still have good spirits and are ready to play.

UA's men's club lacrosse team makes its second road trip to California this season Saturday to take on Chapman, a team that earlier in the season lost to UCLA. The Laxcats will also play Drew, a Division III school from New Jersey, on Sunday.

The Wildcats received a plus this week when they found out their appeal of defensive captain and senior Dave Ames' suspension from the game against Whittier last weekend was accepted.

"They said in reviewing it that he was not in the fight and he should have just gotten a penalty," Laxcat head coach Mickey-Miles Felton said.

Ames, who is also the Wildcats' backup goalie, will play in the net Saturday because sophomore goalie Cameron Gingras was suspended for one game as a result of the fight against Whittier. Junior midfielder Max Webber was also suspended.

"We have to make some adjustments during the week, but that seems to be the story for us because we can never go with the same game plan from week to week," Felton said.

The Laxcats will again try and slow the ball down against Chapman and Drew.

"The experience we got in controlling the ball will help us," Felton said. "This is a very important game for us and I know the players will be able to step up."
