By Bryon Wells Police BeatA student told university police Friday he witnessed somebody stealing a Jeep Wrangler from a parking lot north of Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St. The student told police he was walking through the lot at 9:45 p.m. when he saw a man in dark sunglasses walk up to the Jeep and pull a "slim jim" out of his pants and use it to get in the vehicle, police reports stated. The student told police he saw the man rifle around the inside of the Jeep for about two minutes, flipping down the sun visors as if he were looking for something. He then started the Jeep and drove off toward North Euclid Avenue, reports stated. Police searched the area minutes after the student called, but found no vehicle matching the Jeep's description. The student told police he would be able to help create a composite sketch of the man. A UA custodial services supervisor reported Friday that somebody had taken about $180 worth of cleaning products from various buildings on campus during a two-week period. The employee told police he noticed that three cases of floor wax and seven rolls of paper towels have been missing since March 3, police reports stated. He said the cleaning gear had been taken from locked rooms in the Social Sciences building, 1145 E. South Campus Drive, Mines-Metallurgy building, 1235 E. North Campus Drive and Centennial Auditorium, 1020 E. University Blvd., reports stated. The employee added that whoever got into the rooms had a key, which all custodians have, and that he suspects an employee may have taken the products, reports stated. Two female students called university police March 12 after they caught a man beneath the Warren Street underpass with his pants down. The two women told police they were walking west on the south-side of East Speedway Boulevard about 10 p.m. As they walked over the tunnel, they saw a man on the west-side staircase with his trousers pulled down and one hand near his buttocks, police reports stated. The women told police that other members of the sorority they belong to also saw the man, who appeared to be masturbating with one hand and putting the fingers of his other hand in his anus, reports stated. University police stopped a man who appeared to be driving a stolen car March 14 after they saw him peel out of an alley near North Fourth Avenue and East Seventh Street. Police spotted the man, driving a brown Oldsmobile with a broken headlight, after he left the alley at a high rate of speed, police reports stated. The man made several turns in the downtown area, leading police to believe he was trying to lose them, before stopping his car in the parking lot of the Greyhound bus station at 2 S. Fourth Ave., reports stated. Police further became suspicious because the man parked his car at an angle that would allow him to make a quick get away, and ordered him to throw his keys out of the window, reports stated. The man later produced his license and registration proving the car was his, and police released him after warning him about the busted headlight. A student told university police Saturday that somebody had gotten into his locker and stole his cash as he used the bathroom at the Student Recreation Center, 1400 E. Sixth St. The student told police he left his locker at 10 a.m. to use the restroom and returned 10 minutes later to find that somebody had taken $34 from his pants pocket. The locker was left unlocked. The student told police he noticed one other man in the locker room who had been staring at his locker, but he could not fully describe him. A student told university police somebody took his parking permit from his vehicle Wednesday while it was parked in a lot near East Seventh Street and North Highland Avenue. The student said his Zone 1 parking permit had been taken between 1:30 and 3 p.m. while he was in the Student Recreation Center, 1400 E. Sixth Street.
