UA senior pitcher Nancy Evans (13) prepares to fire it home as freshman third baseman Toni Mascarenas (32) gets set on defense during their home game against Oregon on Friday. The Wildcats swept both Oregon and Oregon State in this weekend's doubleheaders.

For the first time this season, the Wildcats played star-studded softball as they turned in back-to-back doubleheader sweeps over Oregon and Oregon State this weekend at Hillenbrand Stadium.

"That may have been the best we've played all year," Arizona head coach Mike Candrea said after Friday's 8-0 and 13-1 wins over Oregon. "We just came out and took care of our business tonight."

Arizona finished off the weekend by handing Oregon State losses of 14-2 and 12-3 Saturday night as senior center fielder and all-everything Alison McCutcheon moved into first place on the NCAA's all-time career hits list, just ahead of Arizona assistant coach Amy Chellevold.

Chellevold greeted McCutcheon with a high five and hug at first base after eclipsing the mark in the third inning of the second game. McCutcheon's mark, however, is not set in stone as Fresno State standout Laura Berg is just a pair of hits behind Arizona's lead-off hitter with two weeks left in the season and the postseason yet to be played.

In her next at-bat after breaking the record, McCutcheon hit her third home run of the season. She also stole five bases, upping her season total to 45. She has yet to be caught stealing.

Senior pitcher Nancy Evans continued her domination, winning both of her outings over the weekend, including a one-hit, 8-0 victory over Oregon, Friday. The game was called due to the NCAA's eight-run mercy rule. In fact, all four games were cut short because of the same rule, which very well could be renamed the Wildcat rule, as they have used it in over half of their games this season.

The Wildcats also had help from the power hitting of seniors Leah Braatz, Lety Pineda and Evans, who all homered in Saturday's opening-game victory.

In Friday's wins over the Ducks, Arizona compiled 21 runs over the two games while yielding just one run in the night cap.

Next up for Arizona is a trip to Tempe to take on Arizona State Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m.
