Three days after absorbing a hit worthy of ESPN's Plays of the Week, the extent of sophomore quarterback Keith Smith's right shoulder injury is still up in the air.

"We are just taking it day by day," UA head coach Dick Tomey said.

Tomey described the injury as a "muscle thing" and said that the seriousness of the right shoulder injury is still unknown to the coaches.

"He is still real sore," Tomey said. "I haven't seen him since he saw the trainer this morning."

The football team does not practice on Mondays.

Smith left the game after being sacked by UCLA's Brendon Ayanbadejo on the Wildcats' first possession in the second half, and did not return. Smith said after the game, his neck was sore and he was in a lot of pain.

How long Smith will remain on the sidelines will not be determined until later in the week.

"We won't know anything for a couple of days," Tomey said.

Last season against USC, Smith was knocked out of the game after injuring his non-throwing shoulder. He was fortunate to have a bye week and returned to the starting lineup the following week against Oregon State. The Wildcats play San Diego State Saturday at Arizona Stadium at 7 p.m.
