The Arizona men's tennis team competed at the All-College Tournament at the University of San Diego this weekend. The Wildcats had three players advance to the second round, but none advanced further than that. For Arizona, freshman Michael Huss defeated Bernardo Carillo of USD (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) before falling to Steve Adamson of San Diego State (7-5, 6-7, 6-4).

Sophomore Charlie Bachtell won in the first round before losing to Kold Rosenthal also of SDSU (6-2, 7-5). Junior Michel Stopa also competed and was knocked out by Alex Waske (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) in the second round. Senior Mike Mackay lost in the opening round to Nick Varvais of UC Irvine (5-7, 6-3, 6-4).

Briefly

The UA wrestling team had three members come within a round of medaling at the Take Down Tournament in Phoenix on Saturday. Don Kitchen at heavyweight, Tom Pike at 182 pounds and Jason Cappiello at 155 pounds all advanced in their respective 16-person pools. Other schools competing were Arizona State, Pima Community College, Emory-Riddle from Prescott and host school Phoenix College.

The men's water polo team captured the Southwestern Conference Championships at the Student Recreation Pool this weekend, defeating 13th-ranked Colorado 13-5 in yesterday's final. Arizona advanced through the two-day tournament by defeating Colorado State 22-2, Texas A&M 25-4 and Texas 21-3. Bryan Kimbell and Rafael Cuartas both scored 14 goals over the weekend. The top ranked Wildcats claimed an automatic bid to the National Championships on Nov. 7-9 in Williamstown, Mass with the tournament title.

The water polo team hosts the Cactus Classic tournament over Halloween weekend.

Winning percentage of the women's volleyball team at the halfway point of the Pacific 10 Conference season. Its current record of 6-3 is the best ever for the first half of the conference season. Overall, the Wildcats are 14-3 and ranked 15th in the country.
