By Anne Eychaner Science column 'underinformed'Editor: One would think that as the campus paper for such a large University, the Wildcat would do it's best to be informational and educational, not merely serving as amusement for students passing the time before class starts. But I guess the newspaper staff has more interest in the paper than the news, since they were willing to print the rediculously underinformed commentary on evolution, but have been inredibly slow to print any responses that might actually provide some good information to a student body that in general, is seriously lacking in basic scientific understanding. Few people outside the scientific community understand how important it is for the population at large to have an elementary knowledge of science. But scientists have their own work to do, and cannot take on the additional responsibilities of education that schools and media, such as magazines and newspapers, should be doing. Next time the Wildcat tries to pass an article off as science, I hope they can find someone who knows that they are talking about. Anne Eychaner
