'Wildcat' honored with 5 national awards

The Arizona Daily Wildcat received five awards for excellence this weekend including a first place honor for general excellence in online newspapers at a national media conference in Chicago.

The Associated College Press and College Media Advisers Convention is the largest college newspaper conference in the country.

Wildcat photo editor Katherine K. Gardiner earned honorable mention honors for the Chicago Portrait competition. Her winning photo was published in yesterday's Chicago Tribune.

Other honors awarded to the Wildcat at the convention included:

• The 1997 ACP Best of the Net first place award for site design.

• '97 Best of the Net second place award for editorial content.

• Second place in the ACP's Best of Show award for daily, tabloid newspapers.

• A finalist for the 1996-97 ACP Pacemaker award.
