UA golfers take Rolex title from No. 1 Duke

The Arizona women's golf team won the team title yesterday at the second annual Rolex National Intercollegiate Match Play Team Championships in Miami.

Arizona, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, narrowly defeated top-seeded Duke in a tiebreaker to win.

After finishing the match deadlocked at 2.5, the Wildcats were awarded the victory as a result of winning one more hole than the Blue Devils. Overall holes won was the first tiebreaker.

Arizona's Krissie Register and Jenna Daniels won their singles matches in the championship match, defeating Alicia Allison (2 and 1) and Filippa Hansson (4 and 2) of Duke, respectively.

UA's Jill Gomric tied Kalen Anderson in her match, while Shannon Ingalls and Heather Graff fell short.

The event featured eight of the top men's and women's teams in the country in a unique match-play competition. Each team had five members playing singles matches to determine the winning team. Matches were played at the 6008-yard, par-74 Raymond Floyd Golf Course at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa.

Arizona defeated both Tennessee and third-seeded Tulsa by a match score of 3-2 to advance to the championship. Duke advanced by defeating San Jose State 5-0 and Louisiana State 3-2.

The Wildcats' next event is the Golf World Invitational, Nov. 14-16 in Hilton Head, S.C.
