Donnell Harris

As part of the athletic department's "Year of the Fan" promotion, Shamrock Creamery has developed a University of Arizona flavor of ice cream under the Shamrock Farms Premium Ice Cream line. The unique flavor, coined the Wildcat Crunch, is a "delicious blend of butter caramel ice cream and pretzels, peanuts, and caramel fudge." The flavor should be available to the public throughout the state in roughly six weeks. Coca-Cola is doing their part as well, with 100,000 customized 12-packs of Coke and 50,000 neck hangers on two and three-liter bottles to include the Arizona No. 1 Fan logo...

The volleyball team was not able to dress up in wild costumes for Halloween thanks to a date with the Washington Huskies in Seattle on Friday. The match didn't stop them from having their fun though. Before the game, which they won in four games, they sprayed their hair with red and blue dye. The players were unable to persuade coach Dave Rubio into joining in the Halloween fun though...

Arizona basketball player Donnell Harris may have left his woeful free-throw shooting behind him. The junior center, who will not draw comparisons to Mark Price - the NBA record holder for season free throw percentage - has been making strides though. At a recent practice shootaround, Harris was an unconscious 29 of 30 from the charity stripe...

Can't get over to see the Arizona Icecats? Well, have no fear, because everyone will be able to hear their games on the radio for the next five years. Icecat coach Leo Golembiewski announced that the club team has signed a five-year extension with KTKT, AM 990, to broadcast all Icecat home games. The contract will keep the Icecats on the air, the only question is whether the team can stay on the ice. Scheduling problems and other conflicts have arisen with the Tucson Convention Center, largely due to the Tucson Gila Monsters professional hockey team sharing the same locker rooms and ice. A series of meetings with TCC officials and Golembiewski are set this week...

Becky Bell

Former UA women's tennis coach Becky Bell has moved into the athletic departmental office as the director of the CATS (Commitment for Athletes' Total Success) Personal Development.

Bell intends to build on the program's eight years of success. Her primary goal is to restructure the program to focus on finding jobs for the student athletes after graduation since there are currently few career options for Division I athletes, she said.

The athletic department has a separate division devoted to helping student athletes cope with the pressures of performing on the field and in the classroom...

This weekend marks the end of the UA soccer team's fourth season of play with home games against California and Stanford. It also signifies the closure of the inaugural season at the Wildcats new field, Murphey Stadium. While the team has struggled, the attendance has swooned, ranking No. 5 in the NCAA West Region for total home game attendance with 4,843 persons, the highest ranking the team has ever received in any category...
