Simon and Bibby named preseason All-Americans

Arizona senior guard Miles Simon and sophomore point guard Mike Bibby were named to the Associated Press preseason All-America team. The UA backcourt duo is joined by Kansas' Paul Pierce and Raef LaFrentz and North Carolina's Antawn Jamison to form the five-man squad.

This year's selection of two Wildcats and two Jayhawks marks just the second and third time that two players from the same team have been selected as AP preseason All-Americans. The only others were Duke's Grant Hill and Bobby Hurley in the 1992-93 poll.

Bibby was the third-leading vote getter on the team, receiving 59 votes, while Simon was fourth with 32 votes from the 71-member national media panel.

For Arizona, this marks the first time a Wildcat has been named to be a preseason All-American since Damon Stoudamire in 1994-95.

Wildcat forward Michael Dickerson also received votes as well as Pacific 10 Conference players Toby Bailey and J.R. Henderson of UCLA, and Stanford's Tim Young.

The top-ranked Wildcats open exhibition play against the Melbourne Magic tomorrow night at 7:37 at McKale Center. The game will be televised live on KTTU (channel 18).

UNC Asheville tickets remain

For the Wildcats' game versus UNC Asheville on Nov. 29, approximately 2,000 tickets remain and will go on sale at the McKale Center ticket office Monday. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. and will be sold until closing at 4 p.m. Ticket prices are $14, $18, and $20 and can also be purchased over the phone by calling 621-2287.

These tickets are not part of the UA student season ticket plan and will be available to the general public for purchase on a first come-first serve basis. UA students can receive a discount rate by showing their identification card.
