KAMP holding referendum forum today

KAMP Student Radio is offering students one last chance to ask the big questions about the Student Union referendum at today's informational forum.

Students vote tomorrow and Wednesday whether to impose a $40 per semester fee to fund $31.5 million of the $70 million renovation.

The forum will be held in the Memorial Student Union's Senior Ballroom from noon to 1 p.m. today. The panel will include two administrators, Melissa Vito, assistant vice president of student affairs, and Dan Adams, director of Student Unions. Four students also will be included on the panel: University Activities Board President Caitlein Ryan, Associated Students Sens. Summer Katzenbach and Aaron Young and a student member of the "Union Yes, Fee No!" committee.

Justin Clifton, who will host the forum, said he chose panelists who advocated both yes and no votes, so students would get a balanced view.

"Our (KAMP's) position in this is to inform students," Clifton said. "It's not going to be a debate, because at this point it doesn't serve any purpose."

Clifton said he will start the hour by asking questions of each of the panelists, then open the microphone for student questions. Students may ask direct questions of administrators and student leaders.

Clifton said the administrators will be there because they have information that the student leaders do not have.

"I assume my role is to help clarify questions for students," Adams said. "Everything has been open for discussion up to this point."

KAMP paid for fliers advertising the forum, Clifton said, while the Associated Students paid for newspaper advertisements.
