Combine IIF, Union projects

Editor:

I am still not sure why this heated debate over our "wonderful" Student Union continues. The students recently voiced their opinion by saying that they felt a mandatory fee was uncalled for. However, they are not ignorant to the fact that the administration will make them pay for a new Union eventually, it is only a matter of time.

But, I do have a quick a suggestion/solution. Since the IIF building is going forward, without regard to student concerns, why can't the TWO projects be incorporated into ONE? Scrap the plans for the IIF, and re-design it!! Construct ONE building, which would serve as a new Student Union AND an Integrated Instructional Facility for measely freshmen. Sure, I bet it would cost a bit more than the IIF by itself, but would it cost less than the IIF + a new Union? I may be overlooking something important, but I do think that this would be a very economically viable and feasible solution, would it not?
