Staff Reports All Students will need to replace Cat CardsFrom staff reports Everyone will need to get a new card when the Cat Card Office begins its re-carding drive March 2, office supervisor Christina Rocha said yesterday. Even current Cat Cards will need to be replaced, regardless of whether they were issued in August or yesterday, Rocha said. The new cards will have a different look, will feature a memory chip and will not show students' Social Security numbers on the cards' faces, Rocha said. "We don't even have the card in stock right now," she said. "What they have to do is convert the whole system right now from Social Security numbers to ISO numbers." ISOs are 16 digit number codes that work with the Saguaro Credit Union system. There will be no charge for current students to replace their cards during the switch, Rocha said, but the fee for new students and to replace lost or damaged cards will probably increase from the current $5 fee. More information about the new cards will be distributed to students in late January, Rocha said. People having problems with their current cards, such as an inability to enter the Student Recreation Center or access All Aboard funds, can get a replacement card at any time, but will still need to get a new Cat Card in March, Rocha said. Anyone with further questions about the switch can contact Rocha by e-mail at crocha@u.arizona.edu. An article in Friday's Arizona Daily Wildcat was unclear in explaining who needs to replace their student identification cards in March, Rocha said.
