It was a rough day for the Arizona women's golf team yesterday at the SMU/Ohio State Regional Challenge.

The tournament is being held at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif. The Wildcats finished the second day of the three day competition in a tie for second place with Arizona State at 19 over par 587. Both teams are seven strokes behind the tournament leader, Tulsa, who resides at 12 over par 580.

Arizona junior Krissie Register remained the overall leader in the individual competition, but not by much. Register shot even par 71 for the round yesterday, which leaves her at 3 under par 139 for the tournament. She will have to hold off the hard charging duo of Niina Laitinen and Filipps Helmersson from Tulsa. Entering the final round of play, Laitinen trails Register by one stroke at 140, while Helmersson is behind by three strokes at 142.

Sophomore Jenna Daniels played well, carding an even-par 71 for the day. With one round left to play, Daniels is tied for ninth at four over par 146, seven strokes behind Register.

Junior Marisa Baena had a tough day. The usually steady Baena shot a seven over par 78, which dropped her to 12th place in the individual competition, nine strokes back of the lead at 148. Baena played only her second competitive round since injuring her shoulder last fall.

Senior Heather Graff also struggled, shooting a nine-over par 80. Graff is in a tie for 47th place after the first two rounds at 14 over par 156.

The Wildcats are going to have to play a phenomenal round tomorrow to have a chance at the title. With the withdrawal of sophomore Shannon Ingalls due to an injury Monday, the Wildcats' chances are substantially reduced.
