By Christos Economides Shakespeare is sacrosanctTo the Editor: I am appalled that Shakespeare is being censored out of the universities ("Is Shakespeare sexist?," Feb.2). First the English department, now the Theater department, next I dread to think what the math and engineering departments will be like without being able to study the works of Galileo, Rutherford, Newton and Einstein. People come to the United States to study because they think they can get the best education in the world. I am not interested in getting a "politically correct" education. That is a fad that won't be of much use to me when I graduate and must look for a job in the real world. Likewise, it is unfair to the students at Arizona State University to give them poor training in acting for the sole reason that it makes some extremist feminists in their Theater department feel like they're on the crest of some feminist wave. I feel sorry for ASU, they will probably lose their Research 1 status if this happens, and will probably fall behind even NAU in the rankings of the three Arizona state universities. ASU's President Lattie Coor listens to feedback. One can contact him at (602) 965-8972, or fax him at (602) 965-0865. His address is ASU, Mail Code 87-2203, Tempe, AZ, 85287-2203. Let him know that firing Professor Sakren for teaching Shakespeare would be a sad move for higher education. Christos Economides
