To the editor,

There have been some misinterpretations of the BGALA resolution that was passed 9-0-1 by the ASUA senate. The resolution clearly acknowledges the Arizona Daily Wildcat's first amendment right to publish whatever it so chooses. However, the resolution does affirm that to many, the Arizona Daily Wildcat demonstrated insensitivity to gay people and the community by its decision to publish the cartoon in question.

In no way, shape, or form does the resolution ask the Arizona Daily Wildcat to change any of its policies. All it does is advocate that the Wildcat exercise its first amendment rights with a social consciousness in keeping with the diversity of the University of Arizona.

The full text of the BGALA resolution can be accessed on the ASUA webpage at http://www.asua.arizona.edu.
