Let Us Replay

(Ninja Tune Records)

Coldcut, part-owner of influential experimental hip-hop label Ninja Tune, brings us his latest offering in tweaked beats and drug induced catches. Let Us Replay comes almost two years after Let Us Play and includes remixes of the previous album and a few other tracks from here and there. Japanese virtuoso Cornelius starts the entourage with his whirly take on "Atomic Moog 2000," sounding somewhat better than the original. Along with this are remixes by Fader, the Silent Poets, Irresistible Force, DJ Food and many more. One surprise entry is the appearance of Grandmaster Flash on "Last Night a Cliché Saved My Life."

Several tracks on Let Us Replay are exceptional, such as "More Beats and Pieces" (remixed by Lord Fader) and Flash's rendition of "Last Night a Cliché Saved My Life." The rest range from pretty good ("Border," remixed by the Silent Poets), to downright dull ("Music 4 No Musicians" by David Kristian).

All in all, Let Us Replay is fairly unimportant with only a few breakthrough tracks. A nice bonus, though, is the second disk which includes V-Jamm, a visual remixer that you pop in your PC to create videos to older Coldcut tracks. Buy this if you like Ninja Tune, if you don't, then stay away.
