UA freshman Lindsey Blau returns a serve from ASU's Karin Palme Saturday afternoon at Robson Tennis center. Blau lost to Palme 6-3, 6-3 and the Wildcats were defeated by ASU 9-0.

TEMPE - The men's tennis team grabbed two wins Friday at Arizona State but lost the match overall 5-2.

On the first court senior Adnan Novo defeated ASU's Gustavo Maraccio 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, who is currently ranked No. 29 by the International Tennis Association.

"I treated it like a practice match so I wouldn't get nervous and loose my temper," Novo said. "This win definitely adds to my confidence level."

The other win was by senior Pascal Salasca on the second court. ASU's Jeff Williams lost to Salasca 7-5, 6-4.

"He played the big points well," Williams said. "The rest of our team did well (in) not letting UA into the match."

Salasca was happy with his win, but it was not complete due to the team's loss to UA's rival.

"This is an important win for me," Salasca said. "I don't think we are far away from ASU, considering we had players out."

UA is still missing their number one player Alex Aybar and due to injures Jean-Noel LaCoste and Caleb Marquardt missed the match.
