UA swimmers finish fourth at Pac-10s

The Arizona women's swimming and diving squad finished in fourth place at the 1999 Pacific 10 Conference Championships this weekend.
After compiling a 10-1 dual-meet record, which included a 4-1 conference mark, the UA swimmers tallied up 1,136 points but finished behind Stanford (1,533 points), Southern Cal (1,170.5) and California (1,155.5).
For the Wildcats the weekend highlight was junior Trina Jackson, who repeated as champion in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
With a time of 16 minutes, 20.5 seconds, Jackson finished over four seconds ahead of the second place swimmer, and notched an NCAA Championship automatic qualifying time in the process.
Other strong performances turned in by Arizona swimmers were by freshman Erin Vogt and sophomore Lindsey Farella. Vogt placed fourth in the 200 butterfly, while Farella finished third in the 100 freestyle.
The women's squad will next be in action at the 1999 NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., March 18-20.
The men's Pac-10 Championships start this Thursday and run through Saturday in Long Beach, Calif.
