Thursday March 11
Red Ink, a Native American student publication, will be holding a poetry and short story reading for free today from 7-9 p.m. at Bookman's, 1930 E. Grant Rd. Copies of Red Ink will be available for sale, and refreshments will be served. Local author Simon J. Ortiz will host.
Say "Guten Tag" when the German Film Series continues at 7:30 tonight in the Modern Languages Auditorium with "Kaspar Hauser," a look at a 16-year-old who was found abandoned, unable to walk, write, or speak. Call the German Studies Department at 621-7385 for more information.
Just when you thought the OJ trial was over, Borderlands Theater presents Clarence Darrow: Crimes, Causes, and the Courtroom. The show runs today through Sunday at PCC's Black Box Theater, 2202 W. Anklam Road. Tickets for the benefit performance today are $25. For the opening celebration tomorrow tickets are $15. Over the weekend, tickets are $7 for students and $12 general admission for the 8 p.m. evening show, and $11 for the 2 p.m. matinee. Call 882-7406 for ticket reservations.
The Screening Room begins its series of award-winning films by women filmmakers tonight with "The Female Closet" by Barbara Hammer. WomanView continues through March 21, with films such as "The Righteous Babes" by Pratibha Parmar, which deals with female recording artists in the world of popular music. The Poetry Group (POG) continues its reading series with a reading by Juan Felipe Herrera and Maggie Jaffee at Las Artes Studios on 23 W. 27th Street in South Tucson. There is no charge for this event, but a $5 donation is suggested. Herrera will also participate in a Q&A session at the UA Poetry Center tomorrow (Friday) at 11 a.m. For info about both events call the Poetry Center at 321-7760.

Those starving French people in Les Miserables will finally stop singing after two shows at Centennial Hall tonight. Tonight at 7:30 will also be your last chance to see renowned drummer Ubaka Hill perform at the Unitarian Universalist Church on 4831 E. 22nd St. This powerful poet, storyteller, and songwriter will also give workshops on Saturday from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Zenith Center, 330 E. 7th St. Be forewarned: The second workshop is for women only.
