UA track team hosts Cougars, Cornhuskers
The UA track and field team will host the Jim Click Shootout tomorrow, facing Washington State and Nebraska in a meet sponsored by the U.S. Track Coaches Association.
"This meet is always a tremendous meet," UA head coach Dave Murray said. "All three teams competing have a well-rounded program and each have an extremely competitive track team."
Senior distance runner Abdi Abdirahman will return to action this meet after two weeks of rehabilitating a stress fracture in his left foot. Abdirahman will run the 3,000-meters for the Wildcats.
"We are planning on not pushing him too hard," Murray said. "He'll still be a major plus for us."
UA sprinter Patrick Nduwimana, who is coming off a win in the 400m at the Willie Williams Classic last week, will battle Washington State's Bernard Legat in the 1,500m. Legat, one of the nation's elite runners, is fresh off wins in both the mile and 3,000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
"With those two, you have two of the nation's premier runners, and it should be an interesting race," Murray said.
The meet will take place at Drachman Stadium with field events beginning at 11 a.m. and track events commencing at 1 p.m. The meet will be broadcast, with tape delay, by Fox Sports Arizona.
