Arizona sweeps Washington State
From staff reports
The Arizona baseball team put itself in good position for NCAA Regionals by sweeping Washington State 6-3, 16-11, 13-9 this weekend in Pullman, Wash.
Yesterday's 13-9 win saw the Wildcats (29-16 overall, 10-8 Pacific 10 Conference) jump out to an 11-3 lead behind freshman right fielder Shelley Duncan's 17th home run of the season.
But the Cougars (17-19, 1-11) chased freshman right-hander Ben Diggins (7-3) from the mound in the bottom of the fifth with five runs. Four errors, though, were too much for WSU to recover from and UA put two more on the board in the top of the seventh to put the game away. Saturday's doubleheader saw junior Josh Pearce (6-4) throw a complete game five-hitter in the 6-3 win. UA then came back from eight runs down thanks to junior center fielder Troy Gingrich, who was 4 for 6 with four RBI.
