UA club triathlon team travels to California for tournament
The UA club triathlon team travels to Monterey County, Calif., to compete in the Wildflower Triathlons festival tonight.
The competition serves as the national championship for collegiate triathletes. The triathlon is considered to be one of the most physically enduring events in all of sports.
The triathlon consists of a 2-kilometer swim, a 100km bike ride and a 20km run. Arizona expects to have several athletes leading the competition.
Graduate student Kate Bertine is one of UA's top hopes.
"Kate has been doing really great," UA Tricats president-elect David Leigh said. "Last weekend was only her third triathlon, and she won individual honors at the meet."
Leigh also said last year's leading men's scorer, Doug Keen, could also perform well this weekend.
