God's judgment is real and terrible

To the editor,

In her article "Reason reigns the 'morning after'" (Oct. 1), Mary Fan expressed amazement over the lack of pro-life protest against the "morning after pill." She suggested that this is a reflection of most people's intuition that a fetus so young is not a child.

The reality, though, is that we (myself included) easily become cold and callous to the fact that real lives are suffering out there-potential children dying, and potential mothers working through that difficult choice. Because of this callousness, though, we are not willing to step out and help or say something.

I believe that a fetus that age is a real life, worthy of our protection. Standing alone, my view has no more credibility than Ms. Fan's or anyone else's. My basic conviction, though, comes from the fact that God himself has declared that life violable. This is affirmed in the Bible (Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5; etc.) and in our consciences.

For any of you out there facing this difficult choice, I don't claim to know or understand the extent of the pain you are going through, and I don't want to cheapen it. But don't ignore the conscience God's given you, nor the long-term consequences of the choice.

God's judgment is real and terrible, but his love is endless for those who will call upon him. Furthermore, many, including me, are out here ready to listen or help.
