Far from a perfect world for gays
To the editor:
In a perfect world, I would not be writing this letter.
The tragic and senseless death of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming serves to illustrate the very real hate and prejudices that are in our society directed towards gay and lesbian Americans. It is brutality such as this that many of us were reminded of when we read Jeremy Olson's cartoon earlier this semester.
I appreciated the healthy and vigorous debate that raged in these pages earlier this semester over Mr. Olson's cartoon. May freedom of expression continue to thrive on this campus.
And, someday, I hope I may be able to walk down the street, hand-in-hand with my partner, without fear of violence.
