Upperclassment have needs, too
To the editor,
This letter is directed to Jim Van Arsdel, director of Residence Life.
I do not understand how you could give so much preference to freshmen over the rest of the student body. As a current freshman, I understand the importance of living in a dorm. However, how can you forget about everyone else? Sophomores, juniors and seniors are still undergraduates, still students of this university, and therefore, still entitled to housing privileges. This whole-hearted emphasis on freshmen overshadows the needs of the rest of us.
It is beyond me how this drastic change in policy can be put into effect with such short notice. You have probably already heard this, but I'm going to tell you again.
Many students do not have the financial resources to even consider alternative housing. Or the know how. If nothing else, a program should be established to help students find alternative housing. I do not know the first thing about going out to find an apartment. It is a very stressful time and it shouldn't be. Please take my suggestions and comments into account. Don't just pass it over as another irate student. If anything, if you could clarify some of my points, I would be greatly appreciative.
