From staff reports

The UA women's basketball team used strong defense and offensive execution to hold off Arizona State in overtime Saturday night in Tempe.

The Wildcats improved to 13-8 overall, 8-4 in the Pacific 10 Conference after defeating the Sun Devils 76-67 at Wells Fargo Arena. ASU dropped to 10-11, 4-8.

Sophomore guard Reshea Bristol led Arizona with 20 points, while junior forward Angela Lackey had 16 points and seven rebounds.

Junior guards Felecity Willis and Lisa Griffith had 10 points apiece.

ASU freshman Theresa Jantzen, coming off Pac-10 Player of the Week honors, had 24 points and 16 rebounds.

Arizona had three shots in the final 10 seconds of regulation with the game tied 59-59. However, the shots did not fall and the game was forced into overtime.

In overtime, it was all Wildcats. Arizona jumped out on a 9-0 run and the Sun Devils turned the ball over five times.

"We played good defense, but didn't capitalize on the offensive end," ASU head coach Charli Turner Thorne said. "The turnovers in overtime really hurt us. I think it was lack of experience and a bit of fatigue down the stretch which made the difference."

Arizona next heads for a showdown with Oregon State Thursday night in Corvallis, Ore.
