Diversity important

Talk about this story

To the editor,

When I came to this university three years ago I was opened up to a whole new world of cultural diversity. I had never been in a school where so many ethnic backgrounds were represented, it was what I felt made this school great. Sometimes, however, it seems as though the difference of our skin means we have different agendas and that we are somewhat against each other in some sort of racial game. Why? I am running for ASUA senator this year and a big part of my campaign is that I want to see more cultures represented on campus. Cultural diversity is a major part of all of campus life, in fact it is necessary. To know each other is to truly accept one another, and I feel that we do not have to be a member of that ethnicity to represent it.

I would hope that I can truly represent those minorities that feel as though they have no representation. Even though I am classified as the majority that doesn't mean I can not represent the whole student population, including the minorities, because a good representative represents everyone.
