From staff reports

Talk about this story

The No. 24 Wildcat men's golf team will compete at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate today through Friday at the Leilehua Golf Course in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In the Wildcats last outing, they finished second at the Ping Intercollegiate Tournament, which they hosted. Wildcat freshman Ricky Barnes won the Ping Intercollegiate individual title by four strokes.

Six of the 17 teams at the tournament are ranked in the top 25, including No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 8 BYU and No. 9 UNLV.

Wildcat Senior Scott Moore, who has a stroke average of 72.83, is one of the top players on the team. Moore should compete for the individual title along with Barnes.

Senior Derek Gillespie, who has the best stroke average of 71.71 for the Wildcats, will also be a force for Arizona.

Gillespie and Moore were the only Wildcats last season to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Gillespie is the top golfer for the Wildcats going into the tournament with three top-10 finishes.

Only the top four individual scores count for each team.
