Talk about this story

Porn: for some, it is pure entertainment. For others, it is the worst kind of filth.

Yet for a few, porn is a serious career option.

The book 1-2-3 Be A Porn Star! written by Ana Loria, caters to those seeking the information needed to enter the pornography industry. In the United States alone, according to the book, the porn industry puts out 10,000 titles and generates $10 billion a year in revenue.

This makes porn a very serious business, and likewise, the book presents itself very seriously. For those seeking a career in the industry, the book takes a step-by-step look at the profession.

The first section, named "The Stuff," offers some issues one might consider before entering the porn industry. For instance, the fame attached to being a porn star can be a stigma that lives with a person for the rest of their lives.

Also, the section goes on to give an overview of the porn industry, dispelling some common misconceptions. According to the book, exploitation of people is not prevalent in today's porn industry as it was in the 1970s.

In the next section, "The Biz" gives detailed information on the industry itself, and how to achieve success.

The route it suggests is similar to that of any other entertainment venue - getting an agent, being on time and acting professional.

Where it differs is porn actors and actresses have to get regular AIDS tests - a necessary precaution in a sexually oriented business.

From there, the book goes into specifics as to what a performer of porn can expect from the industry.

For guys, it means being in one of the few industries where they get paid less than women. A man can also expect to have to orgasm, on command, and do it in such a way as to make it look believable.

As the book states, "don't 'overact ' for your cum shot - definitely look like you are having the time of your life, but don't go into over-exaggerated facial contortions or anything."

For the women, they can expect to make much more - sometimes quadruple the amount - of their male counterparts. Not only that, but they are the ones more likely to get top billing.

According to the book, however, their careers are shorter - men can do porn for decades, but the average life of a woman of porn is four to six years. This is attributed as part of the nature of the business.

Women's bodies are an important selling point because of the exposure. Breast implants are explained to have qualities that enhance, but can also detract from one's body, as they can stretch the skin.

The section also provides directing tips and legal advice. Apparently, the Internal Revenue Service likes to bust porn outfits for that sort of thing.

The last section, "The Resources," covers mostly health standards and practices in the industry, as well as where to go for help with medical matters.

The book also includes other porn-related contacts and references.

Overall, 1-2-3 Be A Porn Star! is a book written in a factual, well-organized and easy-to-read manner and is sure to be a boon to those who want to get paid to say, "your pizza is here," without delivering a pizza.
