Talk about this story

University police arrested a man Monday after a UA employee witnessed him acting suspicious in the area where a bicycle was stolen, police reports stated.

The employee said he saw Brian Voeller, 45, of the 7500 block of East Cortaro Farms Road, making a "bee line" for a bike rack near McKale Stadium, 1721 E. Enke Dr., at about 10:10 a.m.

He said when Voeller saw him, he began "acting casually" and sat down on a nearby bench, reports stated.

The employee went back into McKale Stadium and about five minutes later went back outside and saw a cut cable lock where a bike was at the rack, reports stated.

The man called UAPD and dispatch sent out a description of Voeller.

Officer found a man who fit the description on a bike near North Mountain Avenue and East First Street.

The officer speaking with the employee asked him if he would go with the officer to identify the man they stopped at Mountain Avenue and First Street and the employee agreed to identify him.

The officer drove the employee past the man the officers stopped and the employee, when he had a clear and unobstructed view of the scene, positively identified the man as the same one acting suspicious near McKale Stadium, reports stated.

A record check of Voeller's identification revealed three confirmed warrants for his arrest, two from Tucson Police Department and one from UAPD.

The officer handcuffed and searched Voeller and found hypodermic needles, Vise-grip pliers, metal cutters and a wrench, reports stated.

He was cited on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary tools and for the three warrants.

UAPD officers will wait until they speak with the owner of the bicycle until any kind of charges are pressed for that incident.

Voeller was taken to Pima County Jail and released.

A UA student called UAPD Monday after someone stole his car, reports stated.

The man said he parked his car in a lot at 1050 E. Ninth St., at about 10 p.m. April 10 and when he returned to it at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, it was gone.

The student told police he wasn't sure if the doors were locked or if he left the keys in his 1995 Honda Accord.

There was no glass or other evidence at the scene that showed any signs of forced entry to the car.

Police spoke with a UA employee Monday after someone stole the wheel and tire from his bike, reports stated.

The man parked his bicycle on the west side of the Medical Library, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., at about 5 p.m. Friday and when he returned to get it Saturday at about 4:30 p.m., the tire and wheel were missing.

He said he locked the bike, but not the tire.

The tire and wheel together are valued at an estimated $120.

He didn't see anyone suspicious in the area when he left the bike nor when he returned to it, reports stated.

A UA student contacted UAPD Monday after she realized someone ripped the convertible top off her car, reports stated.

She said she parked the car in a lot at East First Street and North Vine Avenue at about 2 p.m. last Tuesday and when she returned to her 1991 Mazda Miata at noon on Wednesday the top was ripped off.

She said she saw no suspicious people in the area and there was no evidence left at the scene.

Nothing was stolen from the Miata.

A UA employee called police Monday after someone stole three signs from a UA parking lot, reports stated.

The man said the signs, which belong to the UA Parking and Transportation department, were last seen in the lot at 1227 N. Fremont Ave. at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The employee noticed the signs were missing at about 10 a.m. Monday.

The first two signs stolen were both service vehicle parking only signs valued at an estimated $35 apiece and the third sign was a load/unload zone sign value at an estimated $35.
