UA junior center Loren Woods announced yesterday that he will hold a press conference to discuss his wavering medical condition, Thursday afternoon at 1.

Woods, who announced that he was staying at UA for his senior season last month, was spurred to hold a press conference after a commentary appeared in the Arizona Daily Star yesterday saying his condition may be worse than appears.

The commentary said that Woods has had a surgery on April 5 at the University Medical Center to have "three vertebrae fused and a rod was inserted in his lower back for support."

The commentary proceeded to say that one of the screws in the rod was "defective, and thus four days later, Woods had to have a second surgery to properly tighten the screws."

Further down in the commentary it was stated that Woods also has a "spinal infection, a fungus related to Valley Fever."

Woods plans to alleviate any rumors floating around about his medical condition.

Woods was unavailable for comment, and UA assistant coach Jay John declined to comment yesterday afternoon.

"I'm not at liberty to say because it is not my back," John said. "Loren is going to try to clear up stuff that was said in the Daily Star this morning, a story that had no sources."

John continued to say that he is aware of the condition, but it is not his place to comment on the situation.
