Catcalls
Attention all new humanities majors. The College of Humanities is offering a reception today at 4 p.m. in Modern Languages room 350. This is your chance to meet both the dean of the College of Humanities Charles Tatum, and members of the faculty and talk with them. This is a great chance for you to learn about humanities, as well as get a sense of what the College of Humanities can do for you. Displays and refreshments will be on-hand after the main presentation. If you require more information, call Pat Brooks at 626-4319.
Feel like you need to give a little to charity. Then check out KFMA 92.1 on the UA Mall today. They will be around with conjunction with the UA's Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity all day pushing Watermelon bust and the North American Food Drive. Not only can you get that good feeling from donating food or money, but you will also enter a drawing with a chance to win all sorts of CDs, concert tickets and cell phones. Call Lambda Chi Alpha's philanthropy chair Tom Lachenmaier at 884-9331 if you have any questions.
Feel like you have some extra time on your hands this afternoon? Take some time to check out some of the various art galleries available to UA students. The main exhibit at the Center for Creative Photography, by Vik Muniz, is titled "Seeing is Believing." Muniz's work has been on display in most of the country, including places such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Modern Art. The display is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on weekends from noon until 5 p.m. The exhibition is open until this Friday, so stop by today to check it out before it is gone. The Center for Creative Photography is located just north of Harvill if you can't find it. For the last day of the show, they will be holding a reception and discussion, so if you check on it today, you can swing by on Friday to talk it over with Muniz. Call the CCP at 621-7968 if you have any questions.
Voice mail is still available to campus dwellers. CCIT is offering this service to all dormitories and greek houses, giving them the option of checking their messages from home and away from home with a touch-tone phone. This will give you the option of not worrying about machines or faulty tapes, and can also be hooked up to your cell phone or pager and notify you when you have messages on the system. CCIT is ready to install that second phone line for students who have that roommate who always uses the phone. That option is available to select greek houses. Call CCIT at 621-8999 and get the exact logistics and order your own voice mail.
