It's not uncommon to occasionally have a craving for chocolate or pizza. Some may even have a taste for danger.

But did you ever have that insatiable taste for art?

The University of Arizona Tucson Alumni Club (TAC) is hosting its third annual "Taste for the Arts" food sampling show in conjunction with its 8th annual "Art for Scholarship Show and Sale," starting Friday at the Swede Johnson building, located on the northwest corner of East Speedway Boulevard and North Cherry Avenue.

A committee of UA alumni have volunteered to organize both the food and art shows to profit the TAC's scholarship fund for incoming UA freshmen.

Anne Lopez, a liason from the Alumni Association said that the cuisine sampling was added to pique more interest in the art show. "Many of the chefs are alumni. It gives them a chance to display their own arts," Lopez added.

The actual food portion of the show has only been up and running for three years. Fifteen local restaurants and breweries, ranging from the Landmark Caf to La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill to Gentle Ben's, have already agreed to donate their food and services to the event.

The Bristol, an authentic British double-decker bus, will also be on site with UA alumna Cindy Beebe serving up coffee and espresso. Finally, an area on the porch has been designated for wine tasting. Visitors will be allowed three samples at the wine table (sorry, minors, the servers will be checking for appropriate identification at the table).

Nearly 20 scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen each year based on a personal essay, community service and academic achievement. Contrary to popular belief, the money is not reserved exclusively for fine arts majors. In fact, the scholarship funds are distributed evenly throughout the Tucson community.

"All proceeds of the food show go directly to the scholarship fund," Lopez said. Twenty-five percent of the arts exhibit proceeds go to the fund as well.

Tickets for "Taste for the Arts" are on sale now for $25 in advance and $30 at the door on the day of the show, while the "Art for Scholarship Show and Sale" is free to all who are interested. Those wanting to reserve tickets for the "Taste for the Arts" show can contact Anne Lopez at 621-9026 or e-mail alopez@al.arizona.edu.
