Ward makes attempt to justify his beliefs

By Brad Towne
Arizona Daily Wildcat,

To the editor,

John A. Ward's article "Its all about ME" is the continued attempt by those religious to justify their way of life is better. Mr. Ward in fact ends up looking as if he is trying to justify his own beliefs, while trying to hold up opinion as fact.

John Ward argues that those who wait for sex until marriage "...form a far deeper and permanent bond with their spouse." Huh??? Where did he get these facts. He looks more like he is trying to cover for the fact he is not getting any, and places this self-imposed rule; justified through God, Jesus, and the Church; so as to make him happy about his own sexual frustrations.

Secondly, Czeslaw Milosz's statement that without religion, the belief in nothingness after death results in no punishment in betrayal, greed, cowardice and murder. However, he seems to forget that while there may be no so-called hell that ensues for those who do such deeds, there is something called prison. I have to imagine that someone wanting to live for today will think about spending the rest of his life, and only life in a 10 x 10 cell. There will always be messed up people who ignore not only a prison term, but also your so-called hell.

I find it funny all of those who want to spread the word of God always try to impose their value system upon all of us! I rarely here, read, or see atheists try to cram down everyone's throat how not following what they believe, they are doomed or contributing to the ruination of society.

Perhaps it is because everyone who decides to sacrifice pleasure (whether sex, money, drinking, anything recreational like dancing) hate to see everyone else doing it. Your fear of God leads you to unhappiness every night you watch hundreds UA Students do things deep down you wish you were doing. But instead of joining in, you try to drag down all of us into your miserable existence.

I think it is great you believe in God. I am happy you feel like you will have a better marriage than I, or millions of other Americans. I plead you and others like you not to try to force your happiness down our necks! What is more "ME" than pure arrogance about one's own ethics?
