Drug Policy flawed
To the editor, My thanks to Lora Mackel for her column on drug policy. Sadly, the corruption that initiated cannabis prohibition in this country has grown into a billion-dollar industry. As a result, medical marijuana and hemp farming got swept into the drug war, committing supporters to a fight against the alcohol and tobacco lobbies, as well as the DEA and prison guard unions. Luckily, such extreme zealotry may well prove the undoing of the most fierce drug warriors. The Republicans currently opposing democracy in D.C. have been revealed as uncaring fools (they want to prevent the District from implementing a medical marijuana initiative that passed with the approval of 69 percent of the voters). Perhaps some hemp-friendly voters from their home states will take note.
