Icecats move to 4-0 after USC

The UA Icecats continued their flawless season this weekend in front of enthusiastic crowds with a sweep of the USC Trojans on both Friday and Saturday night.

Dominating on the front lines, the Icecats scored 17 goals in their routs, 7-2 Friday and 10-1 Saturday.

"They shouldn't have been able to skate with us," Head Coach Leo Golembiewski said following the first game.

Friday night's win was a product of individual performances rather than a team effort. Junior left wing and team co-captain Paul Dorn manufactured a hat trick in the first two periods, and great games were also put forth this weekend by sophomore right wing Kyle Neary and co-captain and junior center Marc Harris.

Several missed passes and unassisted breaks plagued the Icecats in the later parts of the game.

"We were overconfident and didn't make things happen." Golembiewski said. "It was a little annoying."

As the first game progressed, the Icecats had more difficulty in controlling the puck and allowed the Trojans several more shots, resulting in two goals.

"The third period was like a microcosm of the whole game," Golembiewski said about his team's inconsistency.

The aggressive nature of the first game culminated in an aggressive battle in the second with dozens of smashing checks, along with Arizona's total offensive and defensive dominance. The Trojans enjoyed several power plays, but were unable to capitalize.

In the first period of Saturday's game, the Icecats had 25 shots on goal to USC's three.

"We played good, and we played our style," Dorn said. "We can't take any nights off."

"We didn't manufacture goals, and we forced shots (on Friday)," Golembiewski said.

But by Saturday the Icecats were more organized and left the Trojans tired and confused.

"It's tough, and these kids work hard; we've got a long way to go," Golembiewski said.

The Icecats take their undefeated record on the road against Penn State on Wednesday and West Chester (Pa.) away on Friday.
