Letter writer confused

Talk about this story

To the editor,

Last Friday Jake Simoneaux had some fairly forceful words to say about a Christian group on campus called "Campus Crusade for Christ." He referred to them as a cult and said they should be renamed as "Campus Cult for Christ." To back up his statement he claimed that they have "secret meetings that only members are allowed in" and that they have raffles to give away bicycles. He also said that they were pestering his roommate to attend church on Sunday. I have been heavily involved with Campus Crusade for five and a half years. Never, since I have been a student at the UA have we ever raffled off a bike. It is also false that we hold "secret meetings." Our meetings are open to everyone. We often have them in front of the stage on the mall.

There is even a devout atheist who comes out to meetings. He is a really great guy and we all love him. It is also not the practice of Campus Crusade to pester people about going to church. Mr. Simoneaux's letter was not offensive to me, but he is definitely misinformed. The Christian group he described is not Campus Crusade for Christ.
