The real story on McCain

Talk about this story

To the editor,

On Monday, I heard Ms. Bapat spouting off about how unfair the GOP is being to John McCain. She states that the reason why the GOP is blacklisting him from a Presidential nomination, is because he speaks, "on behalf of every issue Republicans hate." Sorry Sheila, but it is not that easy!

First, John McCain stands about as much of a chance of becoming president against Gore, as C-SPAN becoming the next hip thing. So why would the Republican's put money on a losing horse.

Next, The Bush gravy train is killing Gore in the public opinion polls. In order to gain a Republican President, the GOP must go with a winner.

Finally, McCain's feeble attempts at campaign finance reform and anti-tobacco legislation, are nothing more than items to add to his resume. The reason Democrats support him isn't because he has a good idea, but because they know that if he wins the Republican primary, then the Democrats have free sailing all the way into the Oval Office. Combine that with the hope of a Democratic Legislature at the next election, and you can see that Democrats are frothing at the mouth for McCain to help put a knife in his party's back.
