In attempts to resurrect their public image after claims of hazing and illegal activity, members of Alpha Chi Omega are preparing a UA recruitment drive focused on their sorority's basic founding principles.

In last night's Associated Students Senate meeting, Alpha Chi Omega national consultant Joy Marshal explained her ideas for the radical membership drive to senators and onlookers.

"We are basically starting over," she said. "We are recruiting new leadership, and a new and different experience for the women of the University of Arizona."

Marshal told the senate that the sorority will hold events next week, starting with lunchtime activities on the UA Mall.

"We are still a social organization," Marshal said. "We are looking for the best of the best - quality women to create a new chapter."

Last summer, resigned Alpha Chi Omega member Arika Hover claimed dangerous and belittling hazing practices were normal for the chapter.

Although Marshal did not site any specific examples, she said the chapter is no longer concerned about the allegations and are preparing to move forward.

"Those (incidents) will not be occurring in this new chapter," she said. "We are starting over. We are moving forward and not looking at the past."

Marshal said this semester's program drive is not related to last semester's "Celebration Series," which included MTV's Real World actors and a Rockappella concert.

"Last semester, we wanted to give back to the community," she said. "We also have a musical founding, which related to the Celebration Series."
