A UA student called police Tuesday after an unknown man exposed his genitalia to her near her sorority house. The student, who is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, 1050 N. Mountain Ave., said she was waiting for a friend outside the house at about 10:30 p.m. when she heard a man behind her say something to get her attention, police reports stated. According to reports, she turned around and saw a man wearing a black ski mask and a black trenchcoat. The woman told police she noticed the trenchcoat was open and he was nude underneath, reports stated. She turned away from the man when she realized he was exposing himself. The woman told police she last saw the man running into some bushes on the north side of the house, reports stated. She said he had a "young voice," but was probably in his 30s. The student told police she would press charges if the man is found, reports stated.
Police responded Tuesday to a UA custodial worker's report of a fire near the Harvill building, reports stated. At the corner of the building at 1103 E. Second St., a plastic garbage can, a concrete wall, a metal cabinet, paper and cardboard were burning, reports stated. Police saw no one in the vicinity and do not know how the fire started, reports stated. According to reports, Tucson Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire without further damage to property.
A UA student called police Tuesday after receiving strange letters from a California man, reports stated. The student is a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority and said she received two letters from the man, one Dec. 8 and one Jan. 4. She told police the first letter asked questions about what the sorority members reach for first in the shower, what they look for in men and why they wear bras, reports stated. The second letter contained only a newspaper clipping and a Frito Corn Chip wrapper, reports stated. The officer said the newspaper clipping did not contain any harassing messages. Both letters were placed into UAPD property as evidence.
Police received a call from a UA employee Tuesday after the employee's car was broken into at UA parking lot. The employee told police he parked his car at about 2:15 p.m. at 1334 E. Helen Ave. and when he returned to it at about 4:45, his front passenger window had been broken out, reports stated. According to reports, the man's 1995 Dodge Neon had damage to the area around the stereo; his stereo and a lapel pin were missing. The Pioneer stereo valued at an estimated $400 and the gold rotary pin were in his car when he left it earlier in the day, reports stated. Police found no fingerprints and the employee said he saw no suspicious activity in the area when he returned to his car.
A UA student called UAPD Tuesday after someone stole her wallet from her backpack, reports stated. She said she left her backpack open while working in a computer lab at 6:15 p.m. at La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave., reports stated. She returned to find the wallet at about 6:30, but it wasn't in the room, and it hadn't been turned in to lost and found, reports stated. There was no cash in the wallet, but it contained credit cards and her driver's license, reports stated.
Police spoke with a UA student Tuesday after she called about a tent that was stolen from a van in October. The student talked to police at about 12:38 p.m. and told them that she put her tent in a van at 1330 E. South Campus Drive at about 4 p.m. Oct. 9, reports stated. When she returned to the van that day at 9 p.m., the tent was missing, reports stated. According to reports, she didn't know if the tent was stolen or taken by mistake because the van was full of other students' camping gear. The Mountain Hardware tent is valued at an estimated $370 and never turned up, so the student called UAPD to report it stolen, reports stated.
