RHA resolution process flawed

To the editor,

For the past year I have noticed a destructive pattern existing in the Residence Hall Association on this campus. Members of the general body accuse executive board members of abusing their power in various ways. Next, is an attempt to instantaneously remove the accused executive board members from office. And "move on" as though nothing has happened.

This process lacks some important steps in the conflict resolution process. Before taking drastic measures in trying to resolve the problem; the organization needed to identify the real problem: are executive board members abusing their power, or do the accusing general body members have a personal vendetta against some or all of the executive board members? The next step should be to attempt to figure out why this is happening. The last step should be to devise a plan to alleviate the conflict.

If the Residence Hall Association would deal with the issues that it faces rather than quickly discarding them. A stronger organization would exist. Ugly residue from past conflicts plaguing the organization would be replaced with trust among members. I would like to see this happen in the Residence Hall Association. This can only happen if members of the Residence Hall Association become willing to implement better conflict resolution strategies.
