Jomo plays flute and rides bicycle at the same time, and has kindness for a religion
Wildcat: My name's Nathan and you're On the Spot.
Jomo: Nathan? I'm Jomo.
Wildcat: Jomo?
Jomo: Jomo. Like "mojo" except the other way. Jomo. J-O-M-O. Yeah.
Wildcat: That's cool. Is that your first and last name?
Jomo: That's my spiritual name.
Wildcat: What's your religion?
Jomo: Kindness · My religion is kindness.
Wildcat: You're the guy who plays the flute while riding hands-free on your bike down the Mall?
Jomo: Yeah.
Wildcat: That's cool. That's like the Pied Piper. I could have sworn I saw like, 50 freshmen following you, running behind you all blindly.
Jomo: The main reason I play is I love playing and because I also know that it helps bring joy. And I'm really into like, making people feel more joy. The more joy people feel, the more it spreads out through the world. One way we're going to turn things around is by just making people feel happier.
Wildcat: Especially with Christmas coming up. Joy is going to be a good thing. How long have you had dread locks?
Jomo: I've been growing these for about seven years. I cut them about every five years for the past 20 years, but I decided not to cut them anymore.
Wildcat: How long have you been playing the flute?
Jomo: I've been playing the flute, probably 20 years.
Wildcat: I play the saxophone.
Jomo: Do you play alto sax? I need a sax player for my band. We're starting to get some really good gigs with folks, like in hotel resorts. They pay like $1,200 ö $1,500 a night.
Wildcat: I'm actually kind of busy · work and school right now · but I appreciate the music and the joy.
