Former Wildcat Eugene Edgerson will soon be bringing his flair to a court near you ÷ this time with the Harlem Globetrotters.
The 6-foot-6, 237-pound Edgerson ÷ famous for his puffed out "afro" hair, retro look and old-school style ÷ is one of 12 newcomers to the Globetrotter lineup. The squad renowned for its on-court theatrics added the dozen players after ending its annual training camp on the campus of Embry Riddle University in Prescott, Ariz.
"You just had to laugh when you hear that one," Wildcat guard Jason Ranne said. "With the uniform and the hair, he can put on quite a show. He'll be a good fit there."
Ranne and Edgerson played together on the 2000-01 Arizona squad that lost to Duke in the 2001 National Championship game.
Edgerson was second on the team in field goal percentage during 2000-01, his final season with the Wildcats. He averaged 4.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game coming off the bench, making nearly 58 percent of his shots.
In April, Edgerson played a vital role in the Mobile Revelers' championship run in the National Basketball Developmental League, averaging 6.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
The Globetrotters will embark on an eight-game college tour slated to tip off on Oct. 27 against the University of North Dakota. They will also take on Michigan State, Massachusetts and reigning national champion Syracuse.
The Globetrotters have been entertaining crowds since the team's inception in 1926 and have played over 2,000 games.
