Not all will follow UA's weapons-free zone rule

This letter is in response to Kendrick Wilson's article lauding the weapons-free status of our campus. There are several pieces of fallacious reasoning that I would like to take issue with.

First, he indicates that any armed person is somehow prone to shooting others over academic arguments and petty theft. Anyone who would react this way is clearly dangerously unstable and incredibly violent; yet, interestingly, he believes that this sort of person will be deterred from even entering campus by a 3-foot-high brown sign admonishing them to keep their weapons off campus. Editorial: Underage drinkers beware and behave

Students under 21, watch out: Any drinking in the residence halls will get you booted out. So will possession of alcohol paraphernalia.

Out partying on the weekends? Police have made it clear that if you're caught, you'll be arrested and could go to jail.

Any doubters need look no farther than this past weekend, where 125 minors were arrested and 57 sent to jail at one party.

We're witnessing a wave of zero tolerance policies when it comes to underage alcohol use, and though students may consider these rules draconian, at least Residence Life and the Tucson Police Department are demonstrating that they're serious about enforcing the law and protecting people from having their peace and privacy disturbed by drunks. Last Thursday, President Likins said that students can expect to see more big tuition increases in the near future. Given last year's huge hike and the state of the university at present, we asked our columnists: Are more hikes justified?
