After two weeks of delays and a second round of interviews, the Central Coordinating Council voted to approve President T.J. Trujillo's appointments for Elections Commissioner and Media Relations Director.
Trujillo submitted Mike Harter for the elections position and Rebecca Butler for the media relations position Sept. 21, but the CCC tabled the appointments and planned to ask the ASUA Supreme Court to decide if the positions had been properly announced to the student body and the legislative branches.
The CCC voted Sept. 28 to reject the appointments since the committee that interviewed the candidates was not comprised of CCC members, which is required by the ASUA Constitution. Trujillo was asked to redo the entire selection process.
A minor appointments committee comprised of Trujillo, Undergraduate Senate Chairman Brad Milligan and Graduate and Professional Student Council Vice President Matthew Troth re-opened the position and re-held interviews.
One additional applicant applied for Media Relations Director, Trujillo said. Harter was the only applicant for the elections position, even though two other students had applied originally.
Trujillo resubmitted Harter and Butler as his appointments and the CCC voted to approve both of them.
"We redid the process like they had asked us to and ended up with same people as the most qualified candidates," Trujillo said. "I'm just glad it is over so we can get started working on the elections and media relations."
