Arizona, Beans finish second after two rounds

The Arizona men's golf team finished in a second place tie after two rounds of play at the 19th Annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate golf tournament in Kaneohe, Hawaii.

Arizona leader Tim Beans dropped into a three-way tie for second with Kris Cox of Oklahoma State and Mike Saver of New Mexico overall after shooting 72. All three placed scores of 141 after the second round.

Notah Begay of Stanford leads all individuals with 140.

Benjamin Nicolay is the closest Wildcat finishing in a tie for ninth with a 143 after two. Nicolay shot a 71 in the first round and a 72 in the second.

The team opened the tournament with one of its best rounds of the year, and was tied for first place with the second-best team in the nation, Oklahoma State. Top-ranked Stanford was eight strokes behind the Wildcats.

The highlight for this opening round was the play of Beans. The UA's top performer of the year fired a first-round 69, and was tied for the lead in the tournament.

The Wildcats continue their pursuit of their first tournament win of the year later today in Kaneohe, Hawaii.
