Today marks the return of Wyoming to Sancet Field after an eight-year absence. The Wildcats and Cowboys will play the first of a two-game series today at 2:30 p.m.

The Wildcats hold a 48-6 series lead over Wyoming with most of the wins coming when the two were Western Athletic Conference rivals.

The Cowboys (2-0) are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Regis University on Saturday, while the Wildcats are coming off a tough series against No.1-ranked Cal State-Fullerton. Fullerton won all three games, but UA kept the games close.

"I'm not discouraged at all," head coach Jerry Kindall said of the series with CSF. "There were a lot of good things that took place."

The series with Wyoming will reunite Arizona's coaches with former player David Taylor, who is now the head coach of the Cowboys. Taylor played catcher for Arizona from 1985-86.

"I know that Wyoming is well coached, because the head coach is one of our former players," Kindall said.

Starting today's game for the Wildcats will be Clay Crossan (1-1). Crossan won the Wildcats' first game against New Mexico State and dropped his ERA from 5.00 to 4.67 after a seven-inning, four-run performance.

"I think our pitching has been encouraging. If the pitchers can get the ball over and let the defense help them then we always have a chance," Kindall said.

In the series against Fullerton, the Wildcats played solid defense and received good hitting from center fielder Diego Rico, third baseman Jake Thrower and left fielder Jeff Gjerde. Rico and Thrower hit well in the first two games, and Gjerde came alive in the last game going 4 for 4 with a home run and a double. Kindall was disappointed with the losses but encouraged by the play of his team against a difficult opponent.

"We played them very, very tough," Kindall said.

The series with the Cowboys will conclude tomorrow with a game at 2:30 p.m. at Sancet Field.
